The Show Must Go On: Local Theatre for Preschoolers
May 19, 2009
While we are on the topic of musicals, I thought I would share local theatre that is kid-friendly. I know this may come as a shock, but we have a ton of theatre available to us here in LA. After all, there are a handful of actors who live in the area. Luckily, some people actually want to put on plays for kids! On our trip to Disneyworld, we watched practically every live show that they had. Our children really love live theatre. There is something about watching the actors live on stage that just makes you feel a connection with them. Since these shows are geared for younger audiences, do not be afraid to take your children here (unless you know that they will be screaming five minutes into the show). So here are a few performances that are currently showing that your kids will most likely love:
School House Rock Live Too! Showing from May 30 to July 26th at Greenway Court Theatre in West Hollywood. Saturdays and Sunday, there are matinee performances at 4 pm.
Cinderella Santa Monica Playhouse is a nonprofit organization that puts on wonderful productions of family friendly theatre. This year, they are performing Cinderella. Saturdays and Sundays, show times are 12:30 pm and 3 pm.
The Pied Piper Theatre West in association with Storybook Theatre puts on interactive musicals for three to nine year olds. Showing at Theatre West on Saturdays at 1 pm until July 11.

Time to Reflect: A Reflection Tour of Los Angeles
January 13, 2009
Whenever I pass by my reflection as I am walking around town, I can't help but look. How much is the gut sticking out today? What is up with my hair? Beside me are my little ones looking at themselves as well. But instead of critiquing their reflection, they are making silly faces, or staring intently at the image in front of them, mesmerized in wonderment. Since the new year is a time to Read more...

The Corner Market -- Is Los Angeles a walkable city?
August 28, 2008
Click over to Walk Score , a website that rates the walkability of cities and neighborhoods in the US, and you'll find that Los Angeles is the 9th most walkable city in America. When I heard this my first reaction was probably similar to the one you're having right now. Namely, ARE YOU KIDDING ME? But yes, supposedly only 16% of Los Angeles is car-dependent. As in, the vast majority of Angelenos Read more...
Water Play When You Don't Have a Yard
July 28, 2008
At least a few of my posts here at Being Savvy Los Angeles have had not-so-subtle grumblings about our lack of a yard. Don't get me wrong, we love our neighborhood and our condominium is spacious and I'm very, very thankful for our home. But I can't deny that I have frequent fantasies of my children running around in a yard, which will have a swing set, a sandbox and a vegetable garden where Read more...
